Today I saw a skunk.

Mr. Poopy-Smell was waddling down the lake path, leisurely as you please. He was first spotted by the old man with the sunglasses in front of me, who motioned quickly to me as I approached him. At first, I thought Mr. P-S was a small dog. His (I think it was a he). His white stripe was so big that you could hardly see the black on the sides - I do think he was trying to start a new trend. I did not stay long to observe Mr. P-S though, because I wanted to get around the lake in time for dinner.

The past week has been difficult. In ways I did not expect it to be.

Yet, He is in control. I may not see what I want to see, but He is in control.

Once upon a time, my email address was gurlwithattitude@notme.com. Remember that, some of you guys? Heh. At that time, I thought it was the cleverest thing in the world.

Shameful, I know.

But of late, I have been thinking - I want to be known as the girl with attitude. The right attitude that is. Returning to Wells has been nothing short of re-entering the atmosphere. Helloooooo earth. "Earth" with its little mosquitoes, mudslides, floods and population of people prone to herd mentality and mass panic when it comes to job-hunting and the like.

I exaggerate. But to some extent, it is true. Yet, it is also the place with familiar faces, with people I thought would not remember me, with connections that are as tenacious as the most annoying weed. And I appreciate that so much more now that I have had the opportunity to be away from it, to define myself outside of its constructs, to see how other systems have failings too. So, I am glad. I am grateful for my sisters in Christ.

And so. This year, I aspire to be different - not in an outrageous manner, but different because of His quiet and gentle spirit. Trusting. I want to be free to love others, without worrying about the rate of return. Different.
