It is good to reconnect. There is something about meeting and speaking face to face that can never be replaced with other forms of communication.
Saw a sticker on a car the other day. "I am fat, you are ugly. But I can diet" Hmm. It got me thinking (especially since I feel above average in this part of the world, and am having bad skin moments) - at what price beauty? How much would I be willing to part with to look like one of them models on those glossy magazines that mock from the shelves? And so I went down a mental list. Intelligence- for some reason this came to mind first. Perhaps its because of the cliched dumb blonde who is supposedly a looker without brains. So I imagined myself being ditzy and clueless. Nope. Not happening. I don't think I'd like to be blissfully unaware and ignorant. It may be fun for a while, but surely it will get annoying. Imagine not understanding half of what is said to you in an intelligent, thought provoking conversation. No way. Imagine not dreaming big dreams because the plan is to catch a rich man's attention and live off that instead. Nah. Besides, intelligence seems to age better than looks do. Friends - so what would it be like to be wonderfully pretty, but have friendships that are as shallow as a wading pool? To have people that like to be seen with you but can't care less about who you are and what is important to you - or fair weather friends - or worse still, those who speak no good about you once out of earshot? Not a happy thought. So qed, not giving up the friends either. Health - tragically beautiful are the words that I think of in this case. So.. wheelchair bound? Or dying slowly of some disease that robs one of faculties or confers pain? Right, less drama. How about a simple case of not being able to reach for items on high shelves because of pains in the joints - or migranes? No, I don't think I would want to deal with that. I'd be way too frustrated. Family- of course I woudn't trade them. Even if an Angelina Jolie meets Kiera Knightley look was on the table. Pretty obvious isn't it? Beauty doesn't really hold a candle to the things that are important to me. But it isn't going to end the lusting after that hairdo, those legs etc. |
