With little ceremony and a load of jetlag - I'm back at school. Dear nica came to pick me up at the airport- can't say I was the best company in the world after travelling for a good 26 hours. The ride back was nothing fantastic- after having tried and been spoilt by the direct flight, this one was... exactly what I remember long haul flights as. The telly thing wasn't working most of the time, there were noisy kids and dollops of turbulence that I still seem to feel. That said, I thank God for bringing me safely here and giving me all the people who take care of me- mom called to check that I got in ok, achan shared her dinner with me and even helped me with the bedsheets and the girls called once they knew I was back. What more can I ask for? So I did konk out at 930 and now I'm here at 6 in the morn, but it could be worse. Discovered that JFK is huge, but only because it has many (9) terminals connected by a train. So each terminal isn't all that exciting - I can say that with authority since I spent an hour visiting almost all of them and learning that postal services are available only at T4. I pray that this sem will be a God centred one, especially in decision making and all. |

Bah. Some silly person out there is seriously annoying me with its (notice the pronoun) meddlesome ways. In my name no less. What do you think my name is, something to be pirated? I do feel sorry for you, 'cos you must be lacking a life, perhaps several, because you just can't seem to leave mine alone. Go write a lousy book or something. Quit being a pain.
Just for fen (who probably was majorly shocked), no LAH. Hahaha. No wonder you sounded so.... "aha!" No offense ben, I love you loads but you know its not in that manner, righto? |

Confession for twin: *sorry sorry*
the pastries got squished. But I tasted them in their flattened, mashed up because of my carelessness glory and I declare them good! The pastry is reminiscent of buttery melting moment cookies in terms of smell and appearance, and the taste does not disappoint! I like the way it holds together till you sink your teeth into them (one piece made it whole, but it survived the journey only to be the first to be eaten). Pineapple color was a lovely appetizing golden-orange-brown, very much the in colour of the fall season. The texture was a little more sticky than it appeared to be, but I know that is because of the hazards of my bag, not the chef.
Just as good was AK's aunt's wrapped up version. Personally I've got a preference for the pineapple in the pastry as opposed to on the pastry kind, but those are tricky because you've gotta get *just* the right amount of pastry, otherwise you get a choking mouthful of pastry and nothing much else. Which is really sad, because it spoils the experience no matter how good the pastry. Well, auntie's (eh sorry I don't know her name) one has a perfect mix. The sweetness of the pineapple inside complemented the pastry well, it doesn't stick together even though it was snugly encased in a pretty, fresh-from the oven look pastry.
And... a tribute to dear Fan, the birthday girl who is so nice to shop with but so difficult to shop for. Seriously dear, it took forever for us to decide. I pray that each year will bring new blessings in every imaginable form! |

I have been productive. YAY! Went for yet another hip-hop/street jazz session with twin. VERY happy for twin. Learnt how to hem clothes. Granma is a genius. Had lunch with William. Worked on a mini tan (I say mini because there isn't much evidence of one, I just feel a whole lot better having done a little time in the sun) |

I had a hole drilled/poked/bored into the offending toenail this morning. Yetch. It then proceeded to ooze old blood. Gross. But I have hopes that it'll recover quicker this way. Now that I've done justice to my toe, I can move on. Searching for pineapple tarts is not easy. Prices are steep - I thought those that I used to sell were dear, but apparently that was (and still is) the going price. Craaazy. Promised my professors some, but I'm kind of fussy when it comes to food quality. Well yes I eat everything but that doesn't mean that I enjoy everything right? Honestly. How can I give them some too-cloyingly-sweet piece of brown mush on top of a bland, dry pastry? I have a preference for the ones that have the pineapple hidden within, but those don't really travel well I think. And given that I'll probably have to repack them into smaller portions when I get there, I don't want to have too many casualties of plane travel. So here lies the dilemma. The ones with the dollop on top are hardier, but tend to be of lower quality. Dance lessons have been a lot of fun as well as a lot of pain. Well, for most part its the pride. Imagine me prancing around trying to look like I know what I'm doing without being too obvious about peeking at the person beside me (usually twin). Met with the feedback comm - that was a lot of fun guys! We discovered our scheming sides from this game called "I'm the Boss". Lol. And we had lots of hand slapping with some random fruit card game. Its really good to see everyone again -thanks guys! |

Ouch-Ah-Ouch-Ah-Ouch-Ah-OW! Thats what goes on in my head now when I walk. In a feat possible only by me, I managed to stub my toe on a carpeted step and have my entire big toe turn blue and black. Which I discovered only this afternoon, because most of my toenail was covered in a rather hideous shade of pink. That is just not my colour. But if not for the nail polish, the really ugly purple bruise would have shown itself sooner and probably freaked me out. Right now, I just want my poor toe back to normal, without having to wince whenever I put weight on it or groan inwardly every other step. Yet, life must go on. So I'll still be meeting twin to go for our lessons. How smart I'm being... is another matter altogether. Tell me, how am I supposed to shoe shop with uniz if I can't put my left foot into a shoe? Seeing daughter and addy again yesterday was good, and there was the unexpected surprise of daniel and squid. Well, we've all changed in some way. But we're still our silly selves when we get together, doesn't matter who is watching. I'm sure marcus thought us crazy. Looking forward to our monday meeting, that should be another round of laughs. Oh shucks. Blades. Tootsie. Arrrgh. I can only pray that my toe will be better by then. Oh oh.. plug for lala's mom's prawn mee - it is fantabulous. Her soup was a beautifully appetizing reddish brown, and had a wholesome this-is-the-real-thing flavor. The other ingredients were cooked just right, and the sauce for the "dry" kind was just right as well. Plus, she had generous amounts of the lovely deep fried shallots that I love. Thanks leong and auntie! |
