C'est tres bizarre. Je crois j'ai un ami qui.. euh.. un peu de ennuyeux. Mais c'est ne pas grave. C'est rien.
God teaches me lessons in the oddest ways. I had a really long chem lab today, and my head was almost bursting with all the new info, trying to get it in order was like trying to untangle the knots that form with fine necklaces- and I was frustrated because my lab partner didn't do her bit of lab thus held us back for another 45 mins. And I was counting on getting out early (it was supposed to be an easy lab) to go to another aerobics class. Although she and I both knew it was her fault we were still there, I kept thinking to myself be patient.. can't show irritation etc. When lab was finally over, and I was walking to the sports centre, feeling really annoyed (as in really really annoyed, enought to want to exert force on something) at how my carefully planned out time was disturbed, several things hit me.
I remembered the bible study we had where the emphasis was loving the person thats in front of me. And that person was my lab partner. I'm glad I didn't show irritation, but at the same time, I questioned my motives for that. Was it because I wanted to seem like a nice happy person or was it because I truly loved her and wanted her to learn too?
Then another thing came to me- was this little change in scheduling going to affect my life in a mega big way? No. So why am I so frustrated over this little thing?
It kind of came together over bible study. We looked at the passage where Jesus said "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, and God that which is God's" - and since I believe that all things are from God, that leaves me with the re-realization that my time is God's too. Its amazing how I can know these things, but not realize them until something happens.
Another part of the same passage was meaningful too- it was at the end, where the Pharisees were amazed at Jesus' answer. And they left and went away. I find it rather ridiculous that someone would leave when impressed. But thats what we all do on one level or another. Some say that they are touched, but thats about it. Macam some kind of "happiness fix". And like Tammy smn says, thats really sad. They're so close to the doorway, but turn around. I know sometimes I experience God, but don't stay close to Him as time passes, so I'm guilty of it too. Wow. Managed to type so much just by sorting out my thoughts. I'll be seeing Naps tomorrow- yay!

Whoa whoa whoa. I dislike people who pretend to be others. Really dislike. And I will leave it at that for now.
Not going to let that spoil my excellent day. Why excellent? Because God made this day and He is good.
We had no lab today, so I was able to offer an ice cream treat to all my little sisters. But only one could make it! We had a great time though, because this is the first time I've met her face to face, and what can I say except she's really cool? I do have to say that all the first years this year are a little too confident for my liking. Doesn't mean I don't love them though.
I've been doing quite a bit of thinking lately. In general. A bit about personal things, a bit about why things are done the way they are, and a big lot about my philo readings.
So, there was a chapter from a book about moral development of people from a women's perspective. I never knew that so much gender bias exists in writing! Seriously, I never really recognized that there was a glass ceiling, or that there was a barrier of sorts, I just kind of didn't think about it. And I read all this literature devoted to arguing against the norms of a male dominated world and go whoa. Is it possible to live 20 years of life being oblivious to it? It took me an entire hour- I kid you not- to figure out the first paragraph of one of the readings. Every other word was one that I had to type define _______ into my google toolbar. And then I have to figure out the sentence structure. Why do they have to write in such a convoluted way? Why?
At least some of the arguments are good. One of the main ideas that the article is talking about sounds kind of dumb to me though (I might just be an ignorant plebian here). So we're supposed to grow from thinking about self to thinking about self and the society, and at the highest level of moral thinking, we are able to look past self, society, laws etc and be free of all these worldly worries. But what good will that do anyone??? what good is a judgment if it doesn't take into consideration the people it will affect? Why would you want to make a judgment about hypothetical situations instead of the real- we don't live in a hypothetical world, do we?
Sigh. You know what this shows? I am not a philosopher. And I've probably deeply insulted those who are. Oopsies.

Fall retreat was wonderful. It is so true that the things of this world grow strangely dim in the light of God's glory and grace. I am positive that everyone who went was blessed.. some even made decisions! The Wellesley group was pretty moved by the whole thing- some of the sisters decided on baptism, one accepted Christ and a whole bunch rededicated. Moi? Je suis touche. I am amazed at how much God has done in my life thus far, how faithful he has been. I felt so unworthy of all the love that has been shown to me by the staff and sisters here- I don't know what I would be like without them. The messages were entertaining to hear because of the delivery, but each message somehow managed to contain both rebuke and comfort for me. Especially the one where pastor yb said that love purifies all our motives. It really got me thinking as to how much of what I do is motivated by love, and it was a good reminder of where my priorities should lie.
Spent half of yesterday working with the admissions people for fall open campus- its like open day in JC, but we have one each semester. They had a student panel that I was able to sit on, and talk about my experience here. Before the panel, I was so nervous. Seriously. It wouldn't be funny if I clammed up and had nothing to say in front of a few hundred people- but it was a real possibility because we got the questions almost on the spot. But God was good, and it was a blast. There were 4 others on the panel, and it seemed so natural to be talking about what we did, what we found special and all that good PR stuff. Haha. At the end we all picked up our name placards (I hadn't seen the front of mine before this) - and I was horrified to see that my name lacked an N! we. haha. That was what everyone thought my name was for an entire hour and 15 mins. Oh well... I take comfort in the fact that noone remembers this kind of thing anyway. Fun it was. I felt like a mini celebrity for a bit when parents came to ask about things- and 2 girls who were from Singapore intro-ed themselves to me! Private school though, so I wasn't that surprised. I would've been if there were people from JCs. Jhia insists that we should start a JC support group around the area because everyone is from international school..
Our lovely BBC sophomore group went out to dim sum in the afternoon- I was late because of work, but seng was nice enough to wait for me at mit so that I wouldn't get lost getting to the place in chinatown. My goodness. 19 college kids overfed with food makes for an extremely loud bunch. I'm sure the serving staff had loads to say about us after we left. Being with most of the group again was really nice though, I haven't seen some of them since before summer.
Got an impulse haircut today. I am serious. It was an impulse because I hadn't been thinking about it at all. Plus, I can probably hold out until december, even though I will look all shaggy and messy. But Sophie heard this rumor that the hair shop in the ville was doing free haircuts for us college students. Since she was making an appointment, I just piggy-backed on her knowledge and made one too. The lady was friendly and I can see why they have the tipping practice, but I don't think they do layering well (if at all). So I might just take the scissors to my own hair tonight, we'll see how bored I get. For now, the head feels a lot lighter.

Guilt.
Due to the fact that I had one and a half brownies, 2 reese's pieces, 2 chocolate cookies and a whole lotta other food in addition to that.
My excuse- oc tomorrow.
Haha. Mehvish was just saying how there'll always be an excuse. Oh well.. If I'm too dumb to think of an excuse wouldn't that be good? Then again, ignorance is bliss, no?
Ooh.. guess what happened at dinner just now? I was talking to Mehvish, and a new girl called Cat sat with us. So we were talking, and all of a sudden she asked if I was from Singapore. I was thoroughly shocked. Do I sound that Singaporean? Lol. Well, it was funny anyway.. its not the first time I've been asked that, or the "are you Malaysian?" - it makes me glad though. Not cos I wanna be known as a FOB, but its nice to know that my roots still show. Well, turns out she transferred from NYU and knew Singaporeans there. Anyways.
Ever mentioned that I'm trying to start a Malaysian/Singaporean club? Methinks it'll be nice to have some place to call "home" while we're here.. plus it'll be nice to have a place to welcome first years to. And to debunk the myth that Singapore is a part of China and the prime minister of Malaysia is chinese. And that we speak Malaysianese.
The bath calls. Its funny, how I always say I'm going to bathe, and people look at me funny. I really mean shower, but isn't it somewhat interchangable?
